Summer holidays are meant to be spent with your children. The weather is warm and evenings are longer; it is fun to stay outdoors till late with the kids or plan outdoor events with them to make their summer holidays memorable! Here are a few summer activities for kids aged 7-12 that promise to keep them engaged.
Plan local day trips
What can be a better way of spending summer holidays than planning a day trip to your favorite local destination? Plan visits to places where you haven’t taken the kids to in the last one year. Consider nature and zoological parks, historical sites, museums, science fairs, etc. Make sure you plan out the trip in such a way that you’ve got your hands full for a whole day. Otherwise, what fun would it be if kids were taken back home after a short visit to the beach and then served lunch? They would rather enjoy if it’s a day outing followed by lunch, another trip to another interesting place, followed by evening snacks, and then perhaps back home!
Explore the internet
If you’ve restricted the kids from browsing on the internet, it’s time you give it another thought. The learning possibilities from kids’ games online are vast and seldom appreciated. Most often, websites offering kids’ games online are monitored for profanity and other unfit content which makes it safe and secure for kids. They have strict guidelines too which prohibit children from revealing their personal details such as name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, etc. Why not adopt technology when it’s the most happening thing in classroom today and instead of refraining from it!
Camp out in the garden
Planning a camp-out for the kids and their friends in the garden is a wonderful summer activity! Set up tents with bed sheets draped over chairs and spread a plastic sheet on the ground and the kids should be good to camp out for the day! However, don’t restrict the kids to the tent. Plan outdoor games such as blind squirt, clothespin tag, etc. to keep the kids on their toes. Prepare or order in dry snacks like burgers, sandwiches, and fritters to serve the hungry lot during mealtime. Keep lemonades and drinking water handy because the sweltering heat can take a toll on children’s health at times.
Grow fruits and flowers
It never harms to plant another tree! Contribute to nature conservation by encouraging kids to plant seasonal fruit and flower trees and cleverly sneak in a few science lessons along with the activity. You can introduce them to germination, photosynthesis, transpiration, etc. while they are busy with the activity. Make sure they don’t give up the activity in the middle of it and instead carry through till flowers and fruits can be seen!
Since summer is the season of the free spirit, push the boundaries and explore more fun activities and games so that the kids are tired at the end of it in a positive way!
