Easter, a festival that heralds the onset of spring and everything fresh and new, is synonymous with several things – Easter eggs in brightly colored hues, candy-filled baskets as well as a number of baby Easter animals. This Easter I’m planning to indulge myself and the kids in some cute hands-on Easter craft animal activities, which will be a welcome change from the virtual games they insist on playing every other day. Here are three of the most endearing Easter animals and fun craft activities related to them.

The Easter Bunny Craft
Originating in German folklore, the Easter hare originally played the role of a judge (similar to Santa Claus) and decided whether children had been good or bad in their behavior. The image of the Easter bunny carrying colored eggs, candy and toys in its basket is characteristic of the Easter festival.
A very simple yet fun craft for preschoolers could be making Easter bunny rabbit ears out of paper.
Let her strut around the house proudly flapping her ears!
Optional: For effect, you may stick on a cotton bunny rabbit tail you know where :D
The Easter Chick Craft
Easter eggs and baby chicks have always been part and parcel of Easter. Since ancient times, eggs have come to symbolize new life. St. Paul describes the meaning of Easter thus: ‘New life in Christ signifies a new beginning and a radical and total departure from our past. Hence Easter celebrates the possibility of change and new life for all.’
This tissue paper baby chicks craft is a cheerful way to get your kids all perked up for the Easter festivities.
Sunshine, spring, chicks and Easter – all make one happy!

- Cut out a relatively thick strip of white paper long enough to go around the child’s head.
- Draw a pair of long bunny rabbit ears separately on white chart paper or cardboard and cut them out.
- Let your child fill in any bright color of her choice onto the ears (the brighter the better!).
- Tape the ears onto the strip of paper from the first step (it should look like a crown with the ears sticking out on the top).
- Fit the ‘crown’ in a loop with tape so that it fits on the head of your child without falling off.

- Take some yellow cardstock and cut out a medium-sized circle out of it to represent the chick’s body.
- Next cut some tissue paper into small square pieces.
- Ask your little one to cover the yellow paper circle with glue and scrunch and stick on the small square pieces onto it.
- Using pipe cleaners, make some legs for your baby chick as shown above and attach them to the bottom of the chick with glue or tape.
- Stick on the googly eyes and you’re done!

The Easter Lamb Craft
Baby sheep (read: lambs) are born in the springtime and therefore their births often coincide with the Easter holiday. The sight of these cute little things gamboling around is somehow reminiscent of my childhood memories of Easter.

As shown above, you could do this craft activity with either two legs for your lamb (front view) or four legs (side view).

- Cut out four strips from black construction paper and glue them onto a lighter piece of paper.
- Now ask your kids to dip their thumbs in white paint and stamp their fingers onto one end of the strips. This will form the white woolly body of the lamb.
- Once the white paint dries, glue on a cotton ball for a tail, black face and googly eyes along with a brightly hued bow.
