Like always, we did our bit for the environment this World Environment Day. Here’s a sneak peek.
We did a recycled craft activity together. Though it was nothing very elaborate, we did have fun making eye mask out of discarded egg cartons. All we did was cut two wells from the end of a carton, poke a hole through each with a pencil nib for the eye holes and allowed the kids to use crayons, paints, glitters, stickers and every other type of art supply they could lay their hands on to make it colorful. Once that was done, we simply poked holes on either side of the eye holes and strung a ribbon through each side. Our recycled cardboard egg carton mask was ready!
We planted sunflowers in our garden. There’s a part of the garden which the kids refer to as their own. We decided to liven it up with sunflowers on the occasion. The son and the daughter each planted two and hopefully they will sprout within seven to ten days’ time.'
We had a picnic in the park. That is we just packed some butter and jam, tomato and cucumber sandwiches along with flasks of chocolate milk and headed to the nearby park, armed with a waterproof bed sheet to sit on and a Frisbee to play with. And yes, we made it a point to pack in all the leftovers in the same packing bag we carried them in and ended up leaving our picnic spot as clean as we had found it – no littering at all.
Every little bit goes a long way, don’t you think?
