The weekend that went by was hubby dearest’s birthday. Like every year, we had a plan to go out and have a special family dinner at his favorite steakhouse. What’s more, the kids sat themselves down two days before D-day and ‘hand-crafted’ special presents for their dad to gift him on his special day (albeit with a little help from me!).
Even you could help your children plan a lovely little surprise for their dad’s birthday. It is amazingly easy to make some of these gifts. Kids can make one of them or all, and gift them throughout the day. While Sarah went ahead with the ‘World’s Best Dad Mug’ listed below, Timothy did the bookmark gift and slipped it into the book his dad was currently reading (The Black Box, by Michael Connelly). This was enough to put a smile on their father’s face all day!
World’s Best Dad Mug
All you will need is a white ceramic mug and a sharpie. Kids can write a ‘Happy Father’s Day’ message or anything else that they would like to say.

World’s Best Dad Mug

They can also draw something simple. It could be stick people or a sunrise. If Dad is an animal lover, kids can even draw unusual pets like the kind you find on virtual pet games. You can even find step-by-step guides to draw them! A personalized coffee mug is a great way for dads to start the day.
Father’s Birthday Lunch Bag
This is a super easy and thoughtful gesture. It requires a brown paper bag, colored markers, and cords or ribbons. Flatten the paper bag and use the markers to draw or just write a message on it.

After packing the lunch, fold the top edge as you would normally do and punch two holes on the folds. A thin, colorful cord or ribbon can be looped into it to make a little bow.
Father’s Birthday Bookmark
This will be a lovely surprise for dads who love reading. Kids can slip in a handmade bookmark into the pages of a book they are currently reading. Cut handmade paper into a rectangle. The standard size of a bookmark is 2” x 6”. You can scribble a message or draw something on it.

bookmark idea you can try is to use a photograph of your child, perhaps one that is their dad’s favorite. Vertically aligned images work best. Laminate the photo before proceeding. Cut the photograph along the outline of the image. Leave some extra space over the top of the cutout. Punch a hole here and loop a yarn through it.
Father’s Birthday Cord Organizer
Dads love gadgets and these gadgets come with loops of cords that can be all over the place. These cords can be organized easily with a handmade organizer. Kids can make life a tad orderly for fathers with this. Round up a few cardboard toilet rolls. Next, you will need ribbons.

Run the ribbon around the roll to measure the length needed. Cut the ribbon as required and glue it around the roll. You can use a marker to write the name of the cord. The cord can be folded and inserted inside the roll.
Father’s Birthday Mini-Book
At the end of the day, kids can huddle together with their father to go through a mini-book of messages and photographs. To make this mini-book, you will need any old pizza box, glue, a pair of scissors, a hole punch, color paper and a ring binder. And, of course, depending on the size of the book, photographs in the appropriate dimensions.

Begin by cutting out the cardboard pizza box into little rectangles or any other size depending on the kind of presentation you prefer. Eight to ten cards would be a good number. Stick the color paper on the printed side. You can then begin writing messages and glue on the photos. Once that is complete, simply punch a hole on the top right corner of the cards, and hold them together with a ring binder.
Children will enjoy working on these little projects as they are fun, easy and personal. They will be delighted to make their dad’s birthday a special one with a bunch of gifts and thoughtful gestures!
