We knew this all along. And it comes as no surprise (especially for us mums) that a recent study carried out at a prestigious institute like the Cornell University has proven just that. What am I talking about? Well, in the words of Kelly Musick, co-author of the study and associate professor of policy analysis and management:
“It’s not that moms are so stressed out with their kids, but relative to fathers, they’re experiencing more strain.”
Why? Well, because of the simple fact that we mothers tend to spend more time running around our kids than their dads. For instance, I am the homeschooling mum-turned-teacher-turned-cook-turned-laundry woman-turned-gardener-turned-playmate for both my little ones. And all of these, all the time. On the other hand, the better half does lend a hand every now and then, but more often than not daddy turns out to be more of just a playmate who concentrates on having fun – swimming, picnics, skating, cycling and the like. Obviously, the kids find their dad to be ‘more fun’ than mom. Sigh.
But do I have reason to complain? Once in a while, yes. But if I look at things in a broader perspective, I have the best job in the world. All mums do :)
