A survey was conducted in the UK recently, in which 2000 parents were quizzed on which ages they thought their children were the most and least fun to be around. The Mail reported thus:
‘Nearly 40 percent of parents said their children were at their best at five because they had started to communicate properly, develop a good sense of humor and could now properly enjoy playing sports and activities. Meanwhile, research shows that parents think their children are the most difficult to spend time with between the ages of 10 and 12.’
Personally speaking, as a mom to a five-year-old and an almost eight-year-old, I don’t really know how far this holds true. For instance, my five year old throws tantrums more frequently than my daughter who is older (and supposedly should be the one who is more difficult to deal with). Also, contrary to what the study concludes, my daughter is the one with a greater sense of humor than my son, and we literally have what I call ‘laughing sessions’ together, thanks to her spontaneously witty one-liners which she keeps coming up with from time to time!
As for me, looking at it either way, it’s working out perfectly. After all, I’ve got the best of both worlds! :)
