Of late, as my kids seem to be growing up at an unbelievably rapid pace, I have actually come to understand what people mean when they say that there are so many things one can learn simply by observing your children. I came across an article written on the same subject yesterday and each point seemed to correspond with something I had experienced with my own little ones.
They never let life get them down. A scraped knee? Or a cut on the finger, with blood oozing out? Be what it may, but you’re not likely to find them moping around for long. I remember when my Timothy got this huge bruise on his knee when he had a fall while playing football; he went around for days afterwards, showing it off proudly to his friends as it changed color over time.
They live like no one’s looking. And we as adults are overtly conscious over such trivial matters! Kids sing their favorite song out loud whenever (and wherever) they feel like it, oblivious to the stares they elicit from amused passers-by. They literally ‘dance like no one’s watching’. Who cares what anyone thinks? Boring grown-ups like us.
They enjoy the little things. A chocolate candy. A yellow butterfly on a flower. A drizzle. All those things which we as adults take for granted as we hurry by with our lives. Why can’t we just ‘stop and smell the roses’ along the way?
They stick really close to the ones they love. Even today, it doesn’t matter what altercations I have with my kids during the day. A goodnight kiss is a must as I tuck them into bed and all is forgotten and forgiven.
Ends with me wishing time wouldn’t always fly like it seems to!
