As they say, kids do say the ‘darndest’ things at times. Most of the times it’s considered super cute, which results in their cheeks being pulled affectionately or a passing laugh with a pat on the head. At other times, we (especially parents like me!) tend to ignore what they say for the simple reason that they’re almost always talking to themselves and so we don’t really tend to pay attention to each word uttered.
Just the other day while surfing the web, I came across some things kids actually said which had me rolling with laughter! Then there were some others which made me go ‘Awww!’ So much so that I made my husband also read some of them and we had a good time sharing the same with friends over dinner amidst some hearty laughs. Perhaps because we have two kids of our own who are just growing out of the so-called ‘baby age’ that we found it so believable. And so I decided to share the best ones from the lot with my readers. Here are some gems:
· A little girl while petting her puppy: “If I squeezed him as hard as I love him, he would explode.”
(This was one of those which made me go ‘Awww!’. Straight from the heart.)
· At the market a kids told his dad, “Why are you buying beer, Dad? Do you know how much candy we could get with that money?!”
(Why, of course. I totally agree with the intelligent kid.)
· Student A: “I can spell my mom’s name.”
Student B: “Oh yeah? How do you spell it?”
Student A: “M-O-M”
Student B: “That’s how you spell my mom’s name too!”
(10/10 to both these kids for their awesome presence of mind.)
· Dad: “I don’t ever want to see you do that again.”
5-year old, in a calm voice: “Okay, close your eyes then.”
(I mean, wow!)
· My cousin’s daughter’s response to “I love you” was “I love me tooooo” for the longest time.
(There I go ‘Awww-ing!’ again…)
And last but not the least, by far the best one of the entire lot:
“Not exactly a classroom but I heard this when I worked with kindergarten children. We took them on an outing one afternoon and they all came back very tired at the end of the day. So they were all looking at books in the story corner by themselves, quietly waiting for their parents to pick them up. This little 3-year-old girl had been looking at a story for a good ten minutes but all of a sudden she looked at me, and with an accusing/confused look on her face shouted: Wait a minute… I CAN’T READ!”
